Box Score FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason softball team (4-13, 0-0 A-10) defeated Canisius by a score of 14-3 in five innings on Friday afternoon at the Mason Softball Complex.
Junior Amelia Ely led the Patriots with a season high seven runs batted in on the day, going 3-for-4 at the plate and scoring two runs. Freshman Rachel Warrens went a perfect 3-for-3 on Friday, tallying two runs batted in and a run scored.
Redshirt senior Marina Vitalich earned her second victory of the season throwing 5.0 innings, recording five strikeouts and allowing only four hits in her seventh appearance of the season.
The Patriots earned an early 5-2 lead in the second inning but a six-run third inning blew the doors open for Mason as they saw their three-run lead turn into a nine-run advantage.

The win opened the 2020 Mason Invitational. The invitational will continue Saturday when the Patriots face Cornell at 4:45 p.m. at the Mason Softball Complex.
