FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason baseball team is back in action this weekend, hosting Winthrop for a three-game series beginning Friday at Spuhler Field in Fairfax, Va.  The first pitch for game one is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
 
Last time out, Mason (0-10) fell to William & Mary, 13-3, on Wednesday at Plumeri Park in Williamsburg, Va.
 
Senior catcher Bailey Klein went 2-for-4 with two RBI, freshman infielder Corey Leadenham was 2-for-4 and drove in a run, and junior outfielder Cam Reckling finished 2-for-5 and scored a run against the Tribe.
 
Mason and Winthrop have met just three times, with the Eagles 3-0 against the Patriots.
 
SCOUTING WINTHROP
 
Winthrop finished the 2019 season with an overall record of 34-23, including a mark of 19-11 against Big South opponents.  The Eagles went 17-9 at home and 13-12 on the road last season.
 
The Eagles won three games in the Big South Conference Tournament, advancing to the championship game before falling to Campbell, 8-6.
 
The Eagles are 9-2 to start the 2020 campaign, with all 11 games at home.  Winthrop swept three games from Maine (Feb. 14-16), took all four games against Canisius (Feb. 21-24) and posted a victory over Davidson (10-3) to start 8-0.  Kent State won two-of-three against Winthrop last weekend.
 
The Eagles lead the Big South with a team batting average of .310 and also lead the league with a team ERA of 3.00 through 11 games.  
 
Winthrop's 8-0 start was the best for the program in 32 years.  The Eagles began the 1987 season with 19 straight wins.
