HILTON HEAD, S.C. – In a thrilling battle of back and forth matches, Mason dropped it's third PTR Springfest match to Radford Wednesday afternoon at Hilton Head Beach & Tennis in Hilton Head.
Three singles matches went the distance in the contest, while one of the three doubles contests went to tiebreakers.
In doubles, the No. 1 team of
Jakob Nielsen and
Edward Ayers lost to the pair of Taramonlis/Silva 6-3. Meanwhile, the No. 2 team of
Ryan Charles and
Rithik Sardana went to a 6-6 tiebreak but dropped the extra points 7-4.
In singles, Ayers convincingly won his match in two sets (6-4, 6-2), being the only Patriot to win in straight sets Wednesday.
Elsewhere, Nielsen fell in a topsy-turvy three set match, winning the first set 6-1, but losing the second set 1-6 and the third-set tiebreaker 5-10.
Rishab Sardana won a contested three set match, winning the first set 6-2, losing the second set 2-6, and then recuperated to win 10-4 in the third-set tiebreaker. And at No. 4,
Rithik Sardana won his first set 7-5, then dropped the second 3-6, before recovering and winning the third-set tiebreaker 10-5.
At No 5. Faisai Alrebdi was defeated in straight sets (6-7, 2-6) and No. 6
Chanasorn Nakaurai also lost in straight sets (2-6, 2-6).
Mason will have a quick turnaround, as they play their final match of the PTR Springfest at 8:30 a.m. against North Carolina Central.
