Box Score Hilton Head, S.C.-- Conference foe Saint Louis edged the George Mason women's tennis team, 4-3, to give the Patriots its first loss at the PTR Springfest on Hilton Head Island.

Mason falls to a level 5-5 on the season, Saint Louis improves to 6-7.

"We played a tough Billiken team today and fell short, but we showed a fighting spirit that we can build on," said Head Coach Steve Curtis.

Saint Louis earned the doubles point after winning the No. 2 and No. 3 slotted matches.  Mason's top team of Paige La and Olivia Daverio won their match, 7-5.

The two teams split the singles matches, with Mason winning the top two positions and No. 5.

Top singles player Paige La won her match against the Billekens Mika Misgav, evening the match at 1-1.

Saint Louis won the next two singles matches at No. 3 and No. 4 to take a 3-1 lead with three matches remaining.

Mason responded with two consecutive wins at the No. 2 and No. 5 singles. Brianna Gibbs defeated SLU's Cassie McKenzie, 7-6, 2-6, 10-5, and Ashley Fitz-Patrick defeated Alana Bourgeois  2-6, 6-2, 12-10.

Marium Raza and the Billikens Ariana Rodriquez would go three sets, before Rodriguez claimed the match and the Saint Louis win.

The Patriots wrapped up spring break with an 8:30 a.m. match Friday versus Radford at the Van D Meer Tennis Club.
