HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The George Mason University men's tennis team made quick work of conference foe Saint Louis in their second match in the annual PTR Springfest with a 4-0 victory Wednesday.
Mason (4-4) won two of three singles matches in straight sets and all doubles matches in straight sets en route to another early morning win for the Patriots.
"The guys played great today and really showed improvements in the areas we've been working on in practice," head coach Jimmy Davis said. "This was a great conference win for us, but we still have improvements to make and we're excited to get a chance at Radford later today."
Mason opened doubles play with a strong effort from seniors
Edward Ayers and Jakob Nielson. The duo swept the Biliken Heiden/Badiants duo 6-3. Sophomore
Rishab Sardana and freshman Faisai Alrebdi lead Mason to a convincing 6-1 victory at No. 3.
In singles play, Ayers picked up his fourth dual win of the year at No. 1, dispatching of Justin Nogalski in straight sets (6-1, 6-2).
Elsewhere around the tennis grounds, Nielson grabbed another straight set win for Mason over Pavel Badiants (6-4, 6-2), while freshman
Rithik Sardana clinched the match for Mason in a third set tiebreaker over Alex Heiden (4-6, 6-2, 10-4).
Mason returns to action in Hilton Head later today with a 4:30 p.m. battle against Radford.
