Box Score Hilton Head, S.C.-- The George Mason women's tennis team won its second straight match at the PTR springfest with a 5-2 win against West Liberty today at the Chaplin Tennis Courts on Hilton Head.
Mason swept the doubles matches to earn the first point of the match and won four singles matches to improve to 5-4 on the season.
Top singles and doubles player
Paige La won both her matches today. She defeated Ericka Valencia in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, in singles action. The doubles match was competitive. Paired with
Isabella Daverio, the Mason team edged West Liberty's team of Gemma Cliffe and Raissa Wagner, 7-5.
At No. 2 doubles,
Jackie Nannery and
Hannah Yang defeated Valencia and Anita Ponti, 6-1. Mason's team of McCarthy and
Brianna Gibbs defeated the Hilltoppers No. 3 doubles team of Carleyah McLean and Luisa Aguado, 6-4.
West Liberty would win the No. 2 and No. 3 singles with wins over
Hannah Yang and a three-set win by Wagner against
Jackie Nannery, 7-6(8), 4-6, 11-9.
The Patriots would garner three points with wins at No. 4. No. 5 and No. 6 singles in straight sets.
Ashley Fitz-Patrick defeated McLean, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
Marium Raza bested the Hilltoppers Anita Ponti, 6-0, 2-0 (withdraw), while
Isabella Daverio took care of Luisa Aguado at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
Up next for the Patriots, a 4:30 p.m. match Wednesday with Radford at Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Club.
