DeLAND, Fla. – The George Mason softball team (0-4) drops two on Saturday against Boston University and Sam Houston State.
The Patriots will be back tomorrow to finish the Stetson Lead Off Classic at Noon, facing Stetson for a second time.
In game one, six different Patriots earned a hit, but could not bring a run across the plate. The Green & Gold left six runners on base and recorded only one walk. Junior Haellie Gordon threw 6.0 innings, allowing six earned runs on 12 hits in 91 pitches thrown including two strikeouts.
The Patriots found themselves down early. Boston recorded five hits in the bottom half of the first inning, scoring two runs in the process. From then, the Terriers did not look back.
Boston scored four more runs on seven more hits (12 total hits) in the remaining five innings of work to secure the victory. Pitcher Ali DuBois did not allow a run in 6.0 innings of work, allowing only four hits and recording 10 strikeouts.
In the second game, the Patriots could not get their offense going despite scoring first. Junior Meghan Graham earned Mason's lone RBI of the game on a base on balls in a bases loaded situation in the top of the second.
Redshirt freshman Alexandra Carabello, who scored for Mason, helped to jump start the Patriot offense with a one-out, four-pitch walk in the second. Freshman Maddy Myers earned her first career hit, a double to right center, to put two runners in scoring position. Junior Saige Cisler later walked to get the bases juiced.
From then on, Mason could not find holes in the Bearkats' defense, recording only one other hit in the contest.
Junior Amelia Ely earned a base hit for the second straight game in the top of the fifth.
Starting pitcher Bekah Ansbro threw 82 pitches, allowing four earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts and three walks in 4.2 innings of work.

The Patriots will conclude the weekend with a game against Stetson on Sunday at noon at Patricia Wilson Field.
Stetson defeated Mason on Friday by a score of 4-2.
