Mason Adds 10 New Faces for 2020 Season

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason softball team will have 10 newcomers on the club for the 2020 season. 
 
 Amelia Ely | Vienna, Va. | InfieldEly
 
 Ely, a transfer student from the University of Albany,  played the last two seasons with the Great Danes, where she started a total of 79 games. During her freshman year, Ely was selected to the America East All-Rookie team, recording three homeruns, six doubles, one triple, 23 runs scored and a fielding percentage of .949.
 
 The Vienna, Va. native earned a 2019 America East First Team All-Conference selection coupled with an America East All-Tournament Team selection after hitting .309 on the season, an OBP of .394 and slugged a career high .447 during her sophomore season.
 

GrubbsGabby Grubbs | Woodbridge, Va. | Outfield
 
Grubbs, a four-time letter winner at Woodbridge High School, was a captain for the Vikings' softball team and was the lone starting freshman for the Vikings during the 2015 season. Grubbs also earned the Academic Excellence Award at Woodbridge, along with being a member of the National Honor Society.
 




HatzakosDespina Hatzakos | Laurel, Md. | Catcher
 
Hatzakos, a two-sport letter winner in soccer and softball, made second team All-County during her senior season at Reservoir High School where she batted .548. The Laurel Md. native was a two-time team captain for the Gators.




 
MinnitiNatalie Minniti | Philadelphia, Pa. | Infield
 
Minniti, four-year letter winner in softball and a two-year letter winner in indoor track, earned a career batting average of .415 at Nazareth Academy High School. The Philadelphia native led the Pandas in home runs in all of her four years there. Minniti was a two-time first team AACA All-Conference selection (2018, 2019).
 




MorenoEmma Moreno | Langley, British Columbia | Pitcher
 
A three-time Provinvial Champion, Moreno earned the Top Player Award in the 2016 Nationals with her club team Surrey Storm. During her time with the Storm, the native of British Columbia helped her team to two national championship titles.
 




MyersMaddy Myers | Richmond, Va. | Infield
 
Myers was a four-year letter winner at Mills E Godwin High School. She was a two-time second team All-Region selection at shortstop (2017 & 2019). During her final season with the Eagles, Myers batted .425 with two home runs, six doubles and 28 RBIs. The Richmond, Va. native was also a member of the National Honor Society during her four years at Mills E Godwin.
 




TaorminaHaley Taormina | Chesapeake, Va. | Utility
 
A four-year letter winner at Grassfield High School, Taormina piled up All-Conference, All-Region, All-State and All-Tidewater selections during her four years with the Grizzlies. Taormina was also a member of the Orion Hunter Elite Fastpitch club prior to joining the Patriots.
 




TorstensenAllison Mae Torstensen | San Pedro, Calif. | Catcher
 
A four-time letter winner in softball at Port of Los Angeles High School, Torstensen earned both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year awards in high school, including a first team All-League selection... Throughout her fours years, Torstensen recorded a batting average of .648 and a fielding percentage of 98.9... Earned spots on the Principal's List, Dean's List and Honor Roll.
 




VillalobosAnnie Villalobos | Escondido, Calif. | Catcher
 
Four-year letter winner in softball and two-year letter winner in volleyball at San Pasqual High School..Villalobos earned two second team All-CIF selections (2017 & 2018) and a first team All-CIF selection during her senior season in 2019, where she hit .410.
 




WarrensRachel Warrens | San Diego, Calif. | Infield
 
Was a letter winner in both softball and volleyball... Crowned the 2019 Female Athlete of the Year from High Tech High School... First team All-Section and All-League honors during her senior year in 2019 at shortstop... Earned second team All-Section and first team All-League in 2018...Named to the first team All-Conference and first team All-Section in 2017...Second team All-Section and first team All-League in 2016... In volleyball, Warrens earned the 2018 CIF Sportsmanship Award.

These 10 student-athletes will join their fellow Patriots down in DeLand, Fla. for Mason's season opener on Feb. 7. The Patriots will compete in the Stetson Hatter Roundup during the weekend, hosted by Stetson University.
