Game Recap: Softball |
FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason softball team (3-9) defeated Lafayette in back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday at the George Mason Softball Complex. Both contests lasted only five innings.

On Friday, the Patriots scored 10 runs in four innings holding the Leopards to zero runs on the first day of the Patriot Classic.

Redshirt junior Adriana Erickson went 2-for-4 with four runs batted in and two runs scored, including two two-run home runs. Senior Marina Vitalich threw four shutout innings, allowing only one hit and recording six strikeouts. The Patriots' pitching staff combined for a one-hitter on Friday afternoon.

Mason started the day when Erickson blasted a two-run home run over the left field wall to give the Patriots an early lead in the first inning. Later on in the third inning, Erickson followed her first at-bat with another two-run home run over the left field fence to give Mason a commanding seven run advantage.

Mason continued to dominate as they found themselves in a position to end the game early in the top of the fifth. The Leopards went three-up-three-down in the top half of the final inning to seal the win for the Patriots.

In the second game against the Leopards on Saturday, the Patriots continued their dominance.

Freshman Rachel Warrens went 3-for-4, earning a team high six runs batted in and scoring a run. The shortstop also notched a double in back-to-back-to-back innings.

Graduate student Bekah Ansbro earned her first win on the season, allowing only two earned runs on five hits and three walks in 4.1 innings of work. Ansbro also recorded three strikeouts.

A bases-loaded double by Warrens brought in three in the second to give the Patriots an early five-run lead. The five run second inning opened Mason's lead up to seven.

The runs continued as the Patriots found themselves up 9-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth, needing one run to end the game in five innings for a second straight day. Freshman Haley Taormina drove in sophomore Taylor Dadig for a walk-off sacrifice fly to left field, giving the Green & Gold a 10-2 victory.
