Day One Results
KINGSTON, R.I. – The George Mason men's and women's track and field teams are in prime position to capture the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships.
The Mason women lead team results with 40 points after six scored events on the first day of the A-10 Indoor Championships. The Patriots rank ahead of UMass (37), Dayton (31) and Rhode Island (21).
The Mason men sit in second place with 47 points, just one point behind Rhode Island (48). The final day is set to begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
Out of the six field events scored, the Patriots claimed the top spot on the podium in three events. Mason swept the pole vault with junior
Harrison Shotwell (4.97m) and sophomore
Hannah Robertson (3.76m) earning gold in the event. Shotwell posted a personal-best mark in a jump-off on the men's side.
Redshirt sophomore
Grace Gaudin notched first in the weight throw with a toss of 17.61 meters. Sophomore
Jessica McRae earned silver in the event with a mark of 17.55m.
Juniors
Benjamin Viau (19.73m) and
Jaylen Simmons (19.02m) finished second and third, respectively, in the weight throw. Both throwers posted personal-best tosses in the event.
Freshman
Xavier Shirley notched a silver medal in the long jump with a mark of 7.17m. Junior
Kiana Stallworth just missed out on the podium with a fourth-place finish in the women's long jump (5.74m).
Through four events, sophomore
Cason Gardner sits first in the men's heptathlon with 2,848 points. He earned gold in the 60m dash and high jump, to go along with bronze in the long jump. The heptathlon concludes on Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m. with the 60m hurdles.
In the running events, sophomore
Annabelle Eastman earned bronze in the 5000m with a personal-best time of 16:46.06. On the men's side, sophomore
Jack Ikenberry took silver in the 5000 meters (14:37.11).
