Fairfax, Va. --A record 54 Peter N. Stearns Provost Scholar Athletes were honored at a reception Tuesday on campus and recognized during a timeout at the Patriots' men's basketball game tonight against Dayton for their outstanding academic achievements.
In its 12th year, the award recognizes the student-athletes who have earned at least 38 credit hours at Mason and have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or better.
Seventeen sports were represented by the 54 student-athletes to earn the honor, the most in the history of the award. There were 18 student-athletes who have received the award before. Nine student-athletes have been named Provost Scholar Athletes at least three times – Edward Ayers (men's tennis), Rebekah Ansbro (softball), Kariana Blaszak (women's soccer), Jacy Bolton (women's basketball), Ryan Donnelly (men's swimming), Shannon Glesing (swim & dive), Sarah Kaminski (women's basketball), Nicholis Malinowski (men's soccer) and Jeff Wilson (golf).
