FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action on Wednesday, competing in the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 19-22 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Each day of the four-day competition will include a morning preliminary session and an evening final session, with the top 16 performers advancing to the finals.

"This is the highlight of our season and we spend our whole year working toward the Atlantic 10 Championships," Mason head coach Peter Ward said.  "The team is really excited to get to the meet and to perform.  This is the only time of the year when we are fully rested and looking for our best performances."

The Mason men's team finished in second place for the second straight year at the 2019 A-10 Championships with 613 points, while the women's team placed sixth with 256.5 points.

"The men's team once again will be competitive against some strong opponents," said Ward.  "There are some good teams across the board, but I think our men's team is as complete a team as we've had.  We have good athletes in every event and if they are performing at their best, we'll be a pretty good team at the meet."

On the men's side at last year's A-10 Championships, George Washington claimed the title for the third straight year with 782 points, followed by George Mason (613), St. Bonaventure (429), Davidson (398), La Salle (373), Massachusetts (346), Saint Louis (344) and Fordham (198).

In last year's competition, Dylan Peck made the podium three times.  Peck was the A-10 Champion in the 200-yard IM with a new school record (1:46.61), claimed the silver in the 100-yard butterfly (48.42) and won the bronze in the 200-yard butterfly (1:47.83).

Ryan Donnelly made the podium twice.  He set a new program record and took the bronze in the 200-yard IM (1:47.94) and also won the bronze with a new team record in the 200-yard backstroke (1:44.97).  Donnelly placed fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (47.92).

In the 50-yard freestyle, Jacob Miller won silver (20.29), while Will Rastatter just missed the podium with a fourth-place finish in the event (20.46).

Attila Kiss made the podium with a third-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (4:26.08) and placed fifth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (15:42.85).  Devin Truong took the bronze in the 100-yard butterfly (48.65) and touched the wall sixth in the 200-yard butterfly (1:48.66).

Gerald Hodges, Jr. captured the A-10 Championship in the one-meter diving event with a finals score of 317.65.  He also took the silver in the three-meter dive with a finals scored of 350.10.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Michael Pettinichi, Logan Eubanks, Andres Alarcon and Jacob Miller set a new school record to finish second in the event (1:27.06).

Eubanks earned a spot on the podium with a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a new program record (47.73) and placed eighth in both the 500-yard freestyle (4:33.06) and 200-yard backstroke (1:49.09).  Alarcon swam to a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (48.78).

"We certainly have a strong senior class and they want to leave their mark on the program and the conference, Ward said.  Ryan Donnelly is a team leader and works as hard as anybody and has been really focused.  Gerald Hodges has come back his senior year and has looked better than ever throughout the year.  He's dedicated himself and I'm really excited to see what he can do.  All the seniors, Attila Kiss, Christopher Stankiewicz, Logan Eubanks, they have been with the program for four years and they've been the backbone of our program since they were freshman."

On the women's side at the 2019 A-10 Championships, Duquesne won the title with 580.50 points, with George Washington second (562) and Fordham third (507.50).

Richmond (505) finished fourth, followed by Massachusetts (333), George Mason (256.50), La Salle (232.50), Davidson (222.50), St. Bonaventure (215), Saint Louis (181) and Rhode Island (91.50).

Megan Cummins set a new team record and won the silver in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:49.47).

Teresa Cotter finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (55.47) and was seventh in the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.18).  Shannon Glesing placed seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke (103.32).

The combination of Laura Hodge, Marla Albanese, Cotter and Cummins placed seventh in the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:29.39).  The group of Brittany Murphy, Chloe Fite, Albanese and Glesing was sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:33.77).

Marina Toone won the bronze in the three-meter dive with a score of 290.90 and placed sixth in the one-meter event with a score of 257.60.

"Jacquee Clabeaux has been one of our top athletes and she'll be very competitive in her events," Ward said.  "She's worked hard all year and done some great things.  We also have a big group of freshmen that I think can have an impact on the meet, not just in the individual events, but in the relays.  Our women's team has a chance to improve on where they have been in the past and we're excited."

The Atlantic 10 Championships marks the final team competition of the season for Mason.
