FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University lacrosse team returns to action Saturday afternoon with a home contest against William & Mary.
First draw between the Patriots and Tribe is scheduled for 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+, with live stats also available via GoMason.com.
Mason opened the 2020 campaign on Feb. 8 against defending national champion and No. 1 ranked Maryland. The Patriots fell 19-6 but put together a strong overall effort to start the season. The Green & Gold held a lead (2-1) nine minutes into the game and had a number of strong looks in that opening stanza in which Maryland's outstanding goalie made an exceptional save.
Mason scored four of its six goals in the second half and three players tallied multi-point efforts.
2019 A-10 Rookie of the Year
Deanna Balsama tallied a pair of goals and grabbed a game-high seven draw controls in the first game of her sophomore season. Junior
Abby Folker also registered a pair of goals and added four draw controls won against the Terrapins.

Christina Romano tied a career best with three draw controls, notched a team-best three ground balls and recorded two points on a goal and an assist. Senior
Hailey Johnson scored Mason's other goal on the day.

Melissa Semkiw notched nine first half saves and finished with 11 for the game.
THE SERIES WITH WILLIAM & MARY
Saturday will mark the 27
th all-time meeting between George Mason and William & Mary in women's lacrosse. The Tribe holds an 18-8 edge in the all-time series, although Mason has won two of the three meetings since the 2017 campaign. William & Mary won the matchup last season, 10-6, on Feb. 16, 2019, in Williamsburg.
Deanna Balsama led the Green & Gold with five points (2g, 3a) in the contest.
A LOOK AT THE TRIBE (0-1, 0-0 CAA)
William & Mary was picked seventh in the 2020 CAA preseason poll. The Tribe opened the season with a 16-12 setback to Villanova on Feb. 8. William & Mary returns six of its top seven goal scorers from last season. Preseason All-CAA selection Belle Martire led the Tribe with a team-high five goals on seven shots and added three draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Four of her five goals came in the second half.
