Huntsville, Texas - The George Mason softball team (0-7) dropped a pair of games at the Bearkat Softball Complex on Friday.
The Patriots fell by a score of 1-0 against Loyola (Chicago) in the early matchup, followed by a tough defeat against familiar foe Sam Houston State by a score of 10-2 in the afternoon.
In the first matchup, the Patriots played well in the field, but their bats could not put any runs across.
Senior Marina Vitalich threw 6.0 innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits and eight strikeouts.
Despite the valiant effort on the rubber, the Patriots left nine runners on base throughout the contest. Mason earned six hits, led by sophomore Taylor Dadig, who went 2-for-2 at the plate with two singles and a sacrifice ground out.
In the matinee contest, Mason got off to a rocky start. The Bearkats tallied four runs in the first inning and added two more in the second, getting out to an early six-run edge.
In the top of the third, freshman Rachel Warrens earned her first career RBI on a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring sophomore EJ Bankson.
Mason added another run to their total when freshman Annie Villalobos notched her team-leading fourth RBI of the season, driving in redshirt junior Adriana Erickson in the fourth inning.
The Bearkats added four more runs after, defeating the Patriots by a score of 10-2.
