LEXINGTON, S.C. – The George Mason baseball team dropped its season opener to North Carolina A&T, 12-2, on Friday afternoon at Lexington County Stadium in Lexington, S.C.
Mason (0-1) fell behind in the first inning when North Carolina A&T (1-1) sent nine batters to the plate and scored three runs on two hits and three walks against Patriots senior starter
James Beasley.
The Aggies increased the lead in the top of the third, sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring six runs on three hits and four walks against Mason sophomore pitchers
Nick Zegna and
Patrick Halligan to extend the lead to 9-0.
North Carolina A&T loaded the bases and batted around again in the top of the fourth to add to the advantage.
Aggies senior infielder Dustin Baber provided the big hit when he cleared the bases with a double down the right field line to make the score 12-0.
The Patriots got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth.

Lyle Miller-Green and freshman catcher
Jake Manderson both walked to start in the inning and advanced to second and third on a wild pitch.
Junior second baseman
Daniel Brooks followed with a RBI groundout, with Miller-Green scoring on the play. Graduate student first baseman
Cooper Mrowka then singled up the middle, with Manderson crossing the plate with the final run of the game.

Beasley (0-1) allowed three runs on two hits, with three walks and two strikeouts, in two-thirds of an inning. Zegna gave up six runs on six hits and walked four with one strikeout in 1.2 innings. Halligan surrendered three runs on four hits in 4.2 innings of work with six walks and four strikeouts.
Junior
Thomas Bradley pitched two hitless innings with two strikeouts. The Patriots walked 14 batters in the game but didn't allow a run over the last five innings.
Junior Ethan Chavis (1-0) allowed just four singles and struck out four with three walks over 5.0 innings to earn the win. The Aggies also used four pitchers.
Mason had eight singles and drew seven walks in the game.
Miller-Green collected a pair of singles for the first two hits of his career, going 2-for-3 with a walk and he also scored his first NCAA run. Miles reached base twice, going 1-for-3, posting his first career hit with a single in the second inning. Mrowka finished 1-for-4 and drove in his first run as a Patriot, while Brooks knocked in his first run of the season.
DeLongchamps singled in four trips to the plate for his first hit in a Patriots uniform, while Manderson scored his first run for Mason.
The Patriots are back in action on Saturday when they face Butler at Lexington County Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
