LEXINGTON, S.C. – The George Mason baseball team dropped its season opener to North Carolina A&T, 12-2, on Friday afternoon at Lexington County Stadium in Lexington, S.C.

Mason (0-1) fell behind in the first inning when North Carolina A&T (1-1) sent nine batters to the plate and scored three runs on two hits and three walks against Patriots senior starter James Beasley.

The Aggies increased the lead in the top of the third, sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring six runs on three hits and four walks against Mason sophomore pitchers Nick Zegna and Patrick Halligan to extend the lead to 9-0.

North Carolina A&T loaded the bases and batted around again in the top of the fourth to add to the advantage.

Aggies senior infielder Dustin Baber provided the big hit when he cleared the bases with a double down the right field line to make the score 12-0.

The Patriots got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth.

Freshman designated hitter Lyle Miller-Green and freshman catcher Jake Manderson both walked to start in the inning and advanced to second and third on a wild pitch.

Junior second baseman Daniel Brooks followed with a RBI groundout, with Miller-Green scoring on the play. Graduate student first baseman Cooper Mrowka then singled up the middle, with Manderson crossing the plate with the final run of the game.

Freshmen Craig Miles, Jr., Corey Leadenham, Manderson and Miller-Green each made their collegiate debuts.  Graduate student Jack DeLongchamps, junior Jackson Barrett, redshirt-sophomore Peter Nielsen and Mrowka each made their Mason debuts.

Beasley (0-1) allowed three runs on two hits, with three walks and two strikeouts, in two-thirds of an inning.  Zegna gave up six runs on six hits and walked four with one strikeout in 1.2 innings.  Halligan surrendered three runs on four hits in 4.2 innings of work with six walks and four strikeouts.
