BOSTON, Mass. – The George Mason men's and women's track and field teams competed in a pair of meets over the weekend in Boston, Mass. The Patriots participated in the Harvard Crimson Elite Invite on Friday, followed by Boston University's Scarlet & White Invitational on Saturday.
Several Patriots notched top finishes in their respective events, while a trio of Patriots made moves in the Mason indoor record book.
Junior
Benjamin Viau highlighted the Crimson Elite Invite with a massive personal record in the weight throw. The Lititz, Pa., native broke his own school record with a career-best toss of 19.27m. The mark ranks first in the A-10 and 52nd in the NCAA.
On Saturday, freshman
Vilde Våge Henriksen posted the second-fastest time in program history in the indoor mile. Her time of 4:48.87 ranks second in the A-10 and in the top-40 in the country. Elsewhere on the track, senior
Ashley Lewis broke her own personal indoor record in the 800m with a time of 2:06.32 – good for second in Mason indoor history.
Scarlet & White Highlights
Junior
Nick Corbin took first in the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.26 while junior
Davina Lane finished fourth on the women's side (9.87).
A pair of Patriots placed fifth in their respective events;
Jordan Turner in 60m dash (6.97) and
Isaiah Carter in the 200m dash (21.79). Junior
Jacob Weigel placed fourth in 500m dash (1:05.47), followed by
Decker Barborek in fifth (1:05.52).
Sophomore
Kelly-Ann Downer finished seventh in the 400m dash with a time of 55.76. The Mason women were also highlighted by Våge Henriksen and Lewis in the running events.
The men's 4x400 relay came in second with a time of 3:17.50, which featured Weigel, Carter,
Jeremiah Hankerson and
Micah Harris.
In the field events, sophomore
Cason Gardner placed first in high jump with mark of 1.99m while
Harrison Shotwell earned first in the pole vault with a mark of 4.80m.
Junior
Jaylen Simmons earned first in the shot put (17.34), followed by
Avory Ransome in second (15.24). Viau added a first-place mark of 18.67m in the weight throw while Simmons placed second (18.16).
Reigning A-10 Women's Field Performer of the Week
Grace Gaudin placed first once again in the weight throw with a mark of 18.42.
Crimson Elite Highlights
Along with Viau's personal record in the weight throw, Simmons also posted a personal-best toss of 18.50m in the event. In the men's shot put, Ransome finished second with a toss of 15.34m.
Weigel finished fifth in the 400m dash (50.16). Junior
Harrison Shotwell placed fifth in the pole vault (4.75) while
Aaron Watson earned fifth in the long jump (6.79).
On the women's side, junior
Kiana Stallworth finished third in the long jump with a mark of 5.91m. Gaudin led the Mason throwers with a second-place mark of 19.59m in the weight throw.
