Fairfax, Va – In partnership with the Patriot Club, Mason Athletics has launched the 'Be A Patriot' fundraising campaign in an effort to navigate the financial challenges and emerge stronger than ever from this unprecedented time.
Mason Athletics relies on several revenue streams, including ticket sales, donations and corporate sponsorships. The department's scholarship needs have not changed because of the pandemic and financial support is needed now more than any other time in the history of the university.
Mason season ticket holders have long established a legacy of passionate and loyal support. With the uncertainty of seating capacities at Mason events, no seat donation requirements will be charged for the 2020-21 season.
To directly fund our student–athlete services during these challenging times, we are asking season ticket holders to reinvest their ticket and seat donation contributions into the "Be a Patriot" Campaign. These resources will go specifically to support scholarships, training and a range of academic and athletic support services for all of our 500 student–athletes.
Gifts made now and throughout the '20-'21 academic year will help us overcome the financial challenges presented by COVID-19, which include:
- Significant expenses related to testing, social-distancing measures, expanded sanitation, and venue technology needed to keep our student-athletes, staff, and fans safe in our facilities.
- Potential for lost revenue due to limited capacity at our venues and/or a reduction in the number of games played, particularly in men's basketball and women's basketball.
- Changes in our academic support and recruiting processes that remain necessary as we continue to navigate the ongoing pandemic.
