FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University Vice President and Director of Athletics Brad Edwards announced Monday that women's lacrosse head coach Jessy Morgan will complete her stint as head coach of the program at the conclusion of the 2020 season.
Morgan will move on to serve as director of athletics at Garrison Forest School in Owings Mills, Maryland.
"Coach Morgan truly has elevated our Mason program since arriving in Fairfax five years ago," Edwards said. "It has been a pleasure to watch her blossom into one of the A-10's premier coaches and lead her student-athletes to unprecedented success within the conference. Though it is certainly bittersweet to see Coach Morgan leave Mason, we are excited for her as she transitions into athletic administration at a very prestigious institution."
Morgan recently wrapped up her fifth season as head coach of George Mason. The 2019 Atlantic 10 Co-Coach of the Year led Mason to an outstanding campaign in which the Patriots tied program records for A-10 wins (7) and A-10 Championship seed (2).
Morgan has compiled a record 55-33 as head coach of the Patriots. The program's 45 wins over the past four years are the most in a four-season stretch in school history.
"I want to thank Brad Edwards, who has been very supportive of me and has shown a strong commitment to the sport of women's lacrosse," Morgan said. "I am appreciative of his trust as I've established my vision for the program. I am proud of the foundation we have laid at Mason. A high standard has been established and I am confident the program will continue to be successful for many years to come."
Morgan came to Fairfax after a four-year tenure as an assistant coach at her alma mater, the University of Virginia. She began her coaching career as head coach at Howard University from 2009-10.
While at Mason, Morgan also served as general manager of the Women's Professional Lacrosse League's Brave Lacrosse franchise and helped lead the team to a league championship in 2019. In addition, her national lacrosse work has included serving a team selector for the 2012 USA lacrosse team which captured the gold medal.
As a student-athlete, Morgan helped the Cavaliers advance to the NCAA Championship three times and win the 2004 NCAA Championship. In her tenure as a player, she helped the Cavaliers win three ACC titles. She anchored a Cavalier defense that finished the 2006 season ranked sixth nationally in scoring defense.
Morgan earned her bachelor's degree in English from Virginia in 2007. She earned her master's degree in business administration in 2017. She is married and lives in Owing Mills, Md., with her children, Sargeant and Saylor.
'I am looking forward to the upcoming season and the opportunity to work with and mentor our student-athletes," Morgan said. "We are committed to ensuring a successful transition for the Mason program as I begin the next step of my career at Garrison. This is a dream job for me to go back to where my athletic career began and to lead such a prestigious institution."
