FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason track and field student-athlete
Jack Ikenberry set an indoor school record in the 5000m with a time of 14:35.02 at the opening day of the Patriot Games. The sophomore broke a ten-year record set by Scott Tekesky (14:37.75).
Ikenberry finished second overall in the event, while junior
Hunter Jutras was fourth with a time of 14:55.66. Redshirt junior
Thomas Amabile (15:08.12) and freshman
Alec Venable (15:12.94) placed 11th and 15th, respectively.
In the women's 5000-meter run, junior
Carina Garcia posted a third-place finish with a time of 17:24.45. The time ranks eighth all-time in Mason indoor history.
Junior
Kaitlyn Johnson placed 10th in the 5000m (18:02.02) while senior
Sarah Richart finished 12th with a time of 18:09.33.
Elsewhere on the track, sophomore
Cason Gardner earned 2,904 points in the first four events of the heptathlon, registering second place heading into day two with the final three events to go. Freshman
Steven Seals currently sits in sixth place with a total of 2,525.
On Saturday, the field events will begin at 10 a.m. with the women's long jump while the running events take off at 11 a.m. with the women's 60-meter dash.
