Blaszak Receives OrthoVirginia Student Achiever Award

FAIRFAX, Va. – Senior Kariana Blaszak earned the George Mason OrthoVirginia Student Achiever Award over the weekend. The award has been put into place to recognize outstanding student-athletes not just for their athletic performances.

The Parker, Colo. native majors in Criminology, Law and Society and is a member of Mason's women's soccer team. She is an exceptional student leader and has made the A10 Commissioner's Honor Roll every semester and has been recognized as a 3-time Provost Scholar Athlete, the highest academic distinction in Mason Athletics. As a member of Mason's ARMY ROTC, Blaszak is the Vice President of the ROTC Leadership Team.

This past summer, the senior completed an internship with the National Forensic Science Technology Center and she has participated in the U.S. Army Cultural Understanding and Leadership Program. Blaszak is active in community service, helping with the annual Aimee Willard Victim's Rights Run/Walk 5K and volunteering with the Special Olympics held here at Mason, while maintaining her pleasant, effervescent personality motivating her teammates and fellow students throughout the Mason community.

George Mason Director of Athletics Brad Edwards presented the award to the women's soccer goalkeeper during halftime of the George Mason men's basketball game against Richmond on Saturday.

"Kari's consistent work ethic in the classroom, to our program and to R.O.T.C. has always been appreciated by our staff and her teammates," Head coach Todd Bramble said. "This recognition is well deserved."

OrthoVirginia Student Achiever Definition:
The OrthoVirginia Student Achiever Award has been put into place to recognize outstanding student athletes not just for their athletic performances. The student athlete can be recognized for anything that they have done that exceptional outside their playing field… whether it be community service, leadership on campus, consistent performance in the classroom, incredible attitude, recovering from a long injury, improvement on the field, etc.
