Scholars Release | Team Award Release

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University men's golf team has been honored with a GCAA Academic Award, while rising senior Jeff Wilson has been selected as a 2018-19 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar.
 
Mason is one of 193 men's golf programs across the Div. I, II and III levels to garner the GCAA Outstanding Team Academic Award. The Patriots combined to post a 3.46 Team GPA, just missing the prestigious Presidential designation by .04. It's the third-straight season the Green & Gold have qualified for the team award.
 
Individually, Wilson picked up his first ever Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar designation.
 
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in there last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
 
As a junior, Wilson ranked second on the Patriots in scoring average (74.23), par-3 scoring (2.95) and birdies (80). He tallied a trio of top-25 finishes on the year, including a season-best t-9th at the Old Dominion/OBX Intercollegiate. The Austin, Texas, product also placed t-15th at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate and was t-24th at the Ocean Course Invitation at Kiawah. 
 
Wilson carries a perfect 4.0 GPA while majoring in sport management at Mason. He was named to the 2019 A-10 All-Academic Team and is a three-time Provost Scholar.
 
In addition to Wilson, Davis Soderberg (3.72 GPA) and Takahiro Nojima (3.59 GPA) also carded cumulative GPAs above 3.5 to help Mason qualify for the team award.
