FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University rowing team will look to carry some late-season momentum into this Saturday's Atlantic 10 Championships.
The Patriots also will hope to continue their recent successes at the annual league regatta, where the Green & Gold have qualified for the grand final in the Varsity 8+ in two-straight seasons.
"It has been a challenging season with the injuries we've sustained and other setbacks we've had but I think the team has come through it well," head coach Joseph Richard said. "As a whole we're taking some of the best strokes we have all year. It's exciting to be heading to our conference championship in a good place speed wise and I'm excited to see what we can do."
Mason's Varsity 4+ kicks things off Saturday with an opening heat scheduled for 8 a.m. The Patriots then will move on to a final race at either 10:50 a.m. or 11:10 a.m.
The Second Varsity 8+ hits the water for its opening competition at 8:40 a.m., with final action scheduled for either 11:30 a.m. or 11:50 a.m., depending on results.
The Varsity 8+ hits the water last, with racing beginning at 9:20 a.m. The Varsity 8+ grand final is set for 12:30 p.m., while the petite final will be at 12:10 p.m.
Last season, Mason's Varsity 8+ finished sixth in the grand final, just .03 seconds behind Saint Joseph's for what would've been the team's best ever conference finish. In addition, the Varsity 4+ won its petite final with a time of 8:36.82.
This season, Mason's young group of motivated student-athletes will hope to match this success and end the season in strong fashion.
