FAIRFAX, Va. – Coming off of an exhilarating weekend at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Conference Championships, the George Mason men's and women's track and field teams venture on with the outdoor season.

The Patriots are onto the ECAC/IC4A Championships, traveling with one of their biggest contingents of student-athletes ever.

A total of 43 Mason student-athletes (26 men and 17 women) attained qualifying marks and will participate in the ECAC/IC4A Championships, which will be held Saturday and Sunday at Princeton University in Princeton, N.J.

"The championship pool of schools competing in the ECAC/IC4A's stretches from Virginia to the Carolinas, and all the way up to New England, so there will be a lot of good competition ahead of us," head coach Andrew Gerard said. "The meet goes back 100 plus years, so there is a lot of high-powered history there."

Unlike the conference championships from last weekend, the ECAC/IC4A Championships are more geared to individual performance and improvement. Student-athletes will have a final opportunity to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary Championships, held May 23-25 in Jacksonville, Fl. The top 48 times or marks in the East Region and the top 24 relays qualify for the preliminary event held at the University of North Florida.

Gerard sees opportunity for his student-athletes moving into the championship meet, however there are certain obstacles that they must overcome come Saturday.

"It is a little bit of a challenge to re-focus this time of year after conference championships, along with graduation, moving out and so on and so forth" Gerard stated. "The positive is we are coming off a high from the conference meets so it gives us momentum moving into this weekend."
