After a slow start in the first half and a 5-4 halftime deficit, Mason found its stride in the second half for a 11-7 road win at Davidson.
Six Patriots scored in the game led by
Deanna Balsama, who has a team-high 34 goals this season. The freshman scored four goals and added an assist, her fifth five-point game of the season. Senior
Chachi Kelehan led the Patriots with three assists against the Wildcats and notched goal number 30 on the season.
The Patriots (8-5, 4-1 A-10) played the game from behind most of the first half. Davidson (7-6, 1-4 A-10) scored first with a goal from the Wildcats Braeden Dial just more than a minute into the game. Mason's Junior
Morgan Rynn leveled the score two minutes later before the Wildcats scored two straight goals. Mason rattled off three straight goals by
Deanna Balsama,
Erin Donoghue and
Hailey Johnson in a five-minute stretch to take a 4-3 lead but Davidson scored two more to take a 5-4 lead into the half.
Mason jumped out of the half scoring four straight goals to take an 8-5 lead.
Chachi Kelehan scored a goal and had two assists in that stretch.
Abby Folker added a goal and Balsama and Donaghue each added their second goals of the game.
Donaghue collected five draw controls in addition to her three points.
Junior goalkeeper
Melissa Semkiw made 11 saves and improved to 8-4 on the season.
Mason finishes the two-game road trip in Pittsburgh on Sunday against Duquesne at Noon.
