FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason baseball team fell to Georgetown, 4-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, Md.

Mason (11-16, 0-6 A-10) fell behind Georgetown (8-21, 0-0 Big East) in the first inning when the Hoyas sent nine batters to the plate and scored three runs against Patriots freshman starter Patrick Halligan.

Hoyas graduate student outfielder Klye Ruedisili led off with a double and scored on a one-out double by sophomore infielder Eddie McCabe to put Georgetown in front 1-0.

After a walk and a single loaded the bases, Hoyas senior infielder Ryan Weisenberg drove in a pair of runs with a single through the left side to make the score 3-0.

The Patriots scored their lone run of the game in the second inning against Hoyas freshman starter Anthony Redfern.

Sophomore designated hitter Scott Morgan led off with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by senior shortstop Alejandro Aponte to cut the lead to 3-1.

Georgetown tacked on an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth.  With two outs, junior first baseman Freddy Achecar doubled and scored on a throwing error to make it a 4-1 game.

Mason and Georgetown split the two-game season series, with each team winning at home.

Halligan (2-3) allowed four runs, three earned, on five hits with a season-high five strikeouts in a season-high 6.0 innings and took the loss.

After allowing three runs on four hits and walking two batters in the first, Halligan retired 16 of the next 19 batters he faced with five strikeouts over the last five innings of his outing. 

Freshman Jared Lyons tossed 2.0 innings and didn't allow a hit for the Patriots.

Redfern allowed one run on two hits in 2.0 innings in a no-decision in his first career start for the Hoyas.  Freshman Carter Bosch (2-3) tossed 5.1 scoreless innings with a career-high six strikeouts to earn the win, while Hoyas sophomore closer Jacob Grzebinski retired the Patriots in order in the ninth to pick up his third save of the season.

The Patriots open a three-game series against George Washington on Friday with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. at Spuhler Field.
