FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason softball player
Marina Vitalich has earned Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week honors for the second consecutive week, the conference announced on Monday. This marks the fifth A-10 weekly honor of her career.
The San Pedro, Calif., native impressed in 16.0 innings of work over three appearances last week. She struck out 20 total batters and only gave up three runs. In her first start of the week, she struck out three batters in 2.0 innings of work for a no decision against Georgetown.
A driving force in Mason's second straight A-10 series win, she tabbed back-to-back complete-game victories over St. Bonaventure. In game two of Saturday's doubleheader, she tied her season-high 10 strikeouts to cruise to a 5-1 victory. In the series finale it was once again Vitalich in the circle for the Patriots. She allowed one run on four hits while striking out seven batters in the 8-1 win.
The redshirt junior leads Mason's pitching staff with a 9-5 record and ERA of 2.69. She also has a team-high 99 strikeouts in 101.1 innings of work.
Mason concludes the regular season with a three-game series against UMass on May 4-5 at the George Mason Softball Complex.
