Marina Vitalich has been named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday. This is Vitalich's first A-10 weekly honor of the season and the fourth of her career.
The San Pedro, Calif., native provided eight scoreless innings of work over two appearances during the week of April 15-21. In her lone start of the week, she dealt a complete-game, one-hitter shutout in Mason's 1-0 walk-off victory. She carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning while striking out a season-high 10 batters. She also added two putouts in the win.
On April 17, Vitalich earned her first save of the season in Mason's 5-3 win over George Washington. In the final inning, she struck out two of the three batters she faced.
The redshirt junior boasts a 7-5 record with a 2.95 ERA.
This is the second straight week and third time this season Mason has earned A-10 Pitcher of the Week honors. The Patriots' pitching staff ranks third in the conference with an ERA of 3.15.
Mason remains at home with a midweek game against Georgetown at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, followed by a three-game series against St. Bonaventure on April 27-28.
