Marina Vitalich tossed a complete-game, one-hitter and sophomore
Meghan Graham drove in the lone run of the game in the seventh inning to lift the Patriots to a 1-0 walk-off win over La Salle on Thursday evening at George Mason Softball Stadium.
The Patriots (18-22, 6-9 A-10) had just one hit against La Salle starter Morgan Orlowski and the Explorers (9-26, 2-11 A-10) were held hitless by Vitalich through five innings.
Mason loaded the bases in the home half of the seventh against La Salle freshman Cailey Joyce. Graham then delivered with the RBI-single to center to knock in the winning run.
Vitalich (7-5) allowed just one single and three total baserunners in the game to go along with a season-high 10 strikeouts to earn the win for the Patriots.
Orlowski surrendered just one single with three strikeouts in 5.0 innings in a no-decision for the Explorers. Joyce (6-11) allowed one run on three hits and walked two in 1.1 innings and took the loss.
The Patriots and Explorers will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 20, with the first pitch for game one scheduled for noon at George Mason Softball Stadium in Fairfax.
