FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason baseball team scored the first seven runs of the game on the way to a 9-5 win over Maryland on Wednesday at Spuhler Field in Fairfax, Va.
The Patriots (14-21, 1-8 A-10) took the lead over Maryland (18-19, 5-4 Big Ten) in the bottom of the first against Terrapins sophomore starter Drew Wilden.

Bailey Klein and senior first baseman
Tim Quinn each walked to load the bases. After a fielder's choice, sophomore designated hitter
Aaron Yurko singled up the middle, with Klein and Quinn crossing the plate to put the Patriots in front 2-0.
In the bottom of the third, Klein smashed his third home run of the season, a solo blast over the right field fence to increase the lead to 3-0.
The Patriots have hit five home runs in the last eight games.
Mason plated a pair of runs in the fourth against Maryland sophomore reliever Mark DiLuia. Yurko led off the inning with a double to the gap in right-center and senior third baseman
Greg Popatak II singled to put runners on the corners.
Brooks then delivered with a RBI-single through the right side to make the score 4-0. Senior outfielder
Brady Acker followed with a walk to load the bases and Driscoll was hit by a pitch to force in a run to make it a 5-0 game.

Patrick Halligan kept the Terrapins guessing over the first six innings, limiting Maryland to just two singles and four total baserunners.
The Patriots took advantage of a Maryland fielding error and scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth against Maryland left-hander Sean Fisher. Senior shortstop
Alejandro Aponte and Klein each singled in a run to extend the advantage to 7-0.
In the top of the seventh, the Terrapins scored three runs on three hits to cut the Mason lead to 7-3.
The Patriots responded in the eighth when they sent eight batters to the plate and scored two runs to make the score 9-3.
Maryland put up two runs in the top of the ninth against Mason freshman reliever
Stuart Barrett to make it a 9-5 game, but that's as close as the Terrapins would get.
Halligan (3-3) allowed two runs on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks in 6.2 innings to earn the win.

Mason Posey gave up one run on two hits in 0.1 inning, junior
James Beasley pitched a scoreless eighth and Barrett pitched the ninth, surrendering two runs on two hits.
Wilden (0-1) allowed three runs on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks in 3.0 innings and took the loss. The Terrapins used five pitchers in the game.
Yurko went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Klein was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored. Driscoll finished 2-for-4, drove in a run and scored a run.
The Patriots host Dayton for a three-game, Atlantic 10 series beginning Friday with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. at Spuhler Field.
