FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University women's tennis freshman
Hannah Harrod has been named the A-10 Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
It marks the first time in her standout freshman campaign that Harrod has earned the honor.
Harrod went 3-1 in four A-10 singles matches and posted a 2-1 A-10 doubles mark to help Mason put together a solid week within the league.
On Friday vs. La Salle, Harrod nearly swept Brittany Poje at No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-1), then partnered with fellow freshman
Jackie Nannery to defeat Poje and Aleks Nikolic, 6-1, at No. 2 doubles.
Then, on Saturday vs. Duquesne, Harrod again won at doubles with Nannery (6-3) and claimed her No. 4 signles match over Priyanka Mitta, 6-4, 6-0. She would not drop a set the entire weekend in singles, as Harrod also won vs. SJU's Paige Conrad at No. 4 on Sunday (6-2, 6-2), when doubles were not contested.
Harrod is 3-1 in A-10 singles and 12-5 overall in dual singles this season. In doubles, Harrod has partnered with Nannery to post an outstanding 12-6 dual mark.
Harrod and the Patriots return to action this Friday (April 19) with a 3:30 p.m. contest at George Washington.
