Share:
Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

The senior class has posted at least 11 wins in each of its four seasons and will go to the Atlantic 10 Championship for the fourth straight season.

Eight players scored for Mason led by freshman Deanna Balsama with five goals, tying her season-high. Both goalies played a half with senior Liz Benedetto getting the start. Benedetto had seven saves, but Melissa Semkiw got the win as the Patriots (11-5, 7-1) poured on the offense in the second half to defeat #RevRival GW, 15-10.

George Washington (5-11, 3-5) raced out of the gate with two straight goals before the Patriots Morgan Rynn scored one of her season-high tying two goals, both in the first half. The score was knotted at 5-5 going into the intermission.

Mason opened the second half on a tear, scoring five straight goals, six unanswered. Deanna Balsama scored twice in that stretch. She has 47 goals on the season. Julianna Brown, Hailey Johnson and Christina Romano scored a goal in that six-minute stretch.

The Patriots' defense led by senior Rachel Wood stepped it up as well after GW scored its fifth goal of the game at 7:38 in the first half. Mason defense, along with goalkeeper Melissa Semkiw, didn't allow a Colonial goal in almost a 20-minute stretch.

The teams would trade goals twice before the Colonials scored three unanswered goals in a five-minute stretch to trim the lead to 12-10 with 5:35 remaining.

Mason would notch three more goals to finish the scoring with goals by Erin Donoghue, senior Chachi Kelehan and Deanna Balsama

The Patriots finish the 2019 regular season at VCU, Saturday, April 20 at 1 p.m.

George Mason is hosting the Atlantic 10 Lacrosse Championship April 25-28 at George Mason Stadium.
