FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason softball team travels to Philadelphia, Pa. for a three-game series against Saint Joseph's. The Patriots (15-19, 3-6 A-10) take on the Hawks (18-15, 7-2 A-10) for a Saturday doubleheader at noon with the series finale set for noon Sunday.
All games will be streamed on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
Mason swept its midweek doubleheader against Coppin State on Thursday. In game one, pitcher
Marina Vitalich led the Patriots to victory with a season-high nine strikeouts in the circle. Sophomore relief pitcher
Kate Owsley gave up the lone run in the 3-1 victory.
In game two, sophomore
Haellie Gordon had an impressive start in the circle, giving up only one hit and a walk through 4.0 innings of work. Relief pitcher
Bekah Ansbro struck out five batters in the final three innings to combine with Gordon for the 6-0 shutout victory.
The Patriots saw success in its leadoff batter spot with
Meghan Graham and
Saige Cisler going 3-for-3 in game one and two, respectively. Redshirt sophomore
Adriana Erickson continued to impress on offense, going 3-for-5 with 4 RBIs and two doubles in the sweep.
AD DOING THINGS
Erickson has notched a hit in eight straight games to lead the Patriots' offense. In the span, she has recorded seven doubles, two home runs and 10 RBIs. On the season, the first baseman is hitting .286 with a slugging percentage of .531. She leads the team in hits (28), doubles (10) and home runs (4).
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
Saint Joseph's: 18-15, 7-2 A-10
Saint Joseph's is currently on a four-game winning streak including a series sweep of conference opponent St. Bonaventure. The Hawks defeated the Bonnies 13-0 (5), 8-2 and 8-6 to move to second in league standings.
In earlier league play, the Hawks swept the Rhode Island Rams but went one-of-three against George Washington.
The Hawks are led by Sarah Ostaszewski who ranks first on the team in batting average (.396), slugging percentage (.613) and hits (44). In the circle, Ashley Ventura leads the pitching staff with a 2.99 ERA and 57 strikeouts for an overall record of 10-10.
