FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason baseball team is back on the road for a mid-week, non-conference game against James Madison, with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park in Harrisonburg, Va.
Last time out, Mason (6-3) defeated Princeton, 7-6 in 10 innings, on Sunday at Spuhler Field to win the series against the Tigers.
Junior catcher
Logan Driscoll went 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored, including his walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 10th. Senior catcher
Bailey Klein went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs.
Mason sophomore
James Price allowed just one hit over three innings in his first start of the season, while classmate
Ryan Miles pitched a scoreless 10th and earned his first NCAA victory.
Every player in the Mason starting lineup reached base at least once in the game. The top five in the Mason batting order combined to go 8-for-21 with five RBI and seven runs scored.
The Patriots have scored first in six of their nine games this season.
Mason freshman
Patrick Halligan is expected to make his second start of the season against James Madison on Tuesday.
Last week at Longwood, Halligan made his first career start and earned the win as the Patriots came back for a 4-3 victory over the Lancers. After allowing three runs in the first inning, Halligan then retired 15-of-17 Lancers batters from the first through the fifth inning.
Redshirt senior outfielder
Brady Acker leads the team in average (.316) and runs scored (7). He ranks third on the club in hits (6) and is tied for second in doubles (2).
Senior first baseman
Tim Quinn is second on the club with a .259 average. He leads the team in walks (12) and is tied for second in hits (7).
Senior third baseman
Greg Popatak II is batting .257 and leads the team in hits (9), doubles (3) and RBI (9).
During the 2018 season, Mason and James Madison split a home-and-home series, with each team winning on the road.
The Dukes defeated the Patriots, 2-1, on Apr. 11 at Spuhler Field, while Mason posted a 7-1 win over James Madison on Apr. 18 at Veterans Memorial Park in Harrisonburg.
SCOUTING REPORT
James Madison finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 26-26, including a mark of 11-13 against Colonial Athletic Association opponents. The Dukes went 13-14 at home and 13-12 on the road last season.
The Dukes are 7-4 in their first 11 games of 2019, with a 7-1 record at Veterans Memorial Park.
James Madison began the season with five straight wins.
