FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason softball team welcomes Fordham to the George Mason Softball Complex March 30-31 for its Atlantic 10 home opener. The three-game series starts with a doubleheader on Saturday, first pitch slated for noon. The series finale will take place on Sunday at noon.
All game will be streamed on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
Mason picked up its first doubleheader sweep of the season over Towson on March 27. The Patriots defeated the Tigers, 9-3 and 1-0, to improve to 11-15 overall.
The pitching staff proved to be the driving force in Mason's midweek victories.
Kate Owsley made her second start of the season, providing four solid innings of work in game one.
Bekah Ansbro came in clutch in the final three innings to earn her sixth win of the season.
In game two,
Marina Vitalich (4-3) struck out a season-high seven batters through 5.0 innings of work. Sophomore
Haellie Gordon earned her first save of the season, giving Mason the 1-0 win. Sophomore
Meghan Graham hit the game-winning RBI single in the fifth inning.
The Patriots recorded zero errors on the day, for their first error-less game since March 15 against Cornell. Mason is 4-3 this season when they record no errors.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
Fordham Rams: 9-18, 2-1 A-10
Fordham recently fell in five innings to Rutgers, 10-2, in Piscataway, N.J. To start conference play, the Rams went 2-1 against George Washington.
The six-time defending Atlantic 10 Champion was picked to finish tied for second in the A-10 Preseason Poll.
Since its first meeting in 1995, the two teams have faced each other 19 times, with Fordham leading the series, 15-4. Fordham swept Mason in last season's three-game series, 4-2, 10-2 (6) and 4-3 (8), April 7-8 in New York, N.Y. Mason's last win over Fordham was on April 9, 2017 by a score of 2-1.
