PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The George Mason baseball team dropped the middle game of its series at Saint Joseph's, 18-9, on Saturday afternoon at Smithson Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
Mason (10-11, 0-2 A-10) took the lead over Saint Joseph's (9-10, 2-0 A-10) in the first inning against Hawks sophomore starter Matt Kennedy.

Cam Reckling led off the inning with a double down the left field line. Senior catcher
Logan Driscoll then swung at the first pitch he saw and belted his seventh home run of the season, a two-run homer to right to put the Patriots in front 2-0.
Driscoll has hit four home runs in the last seven games, while the Patriots have hit a total of six home runs over the last four games.
The Hawks dented the scoreboard in the bottom of the first against Mason freshman starter
Nick Zegna. With two outs, junior catcher James McConnon singled, advanced on an error and scored on a RBI-single by freshman infielder Nate Thomas to make it a 2-1 game.
That would be the first of 10 unanswered runs scored by Saint Joseph's.
Saint Joseph's sent nine batters to the plate and scored five runs on five hits in the second inning to take a 6-2 lead. Hawks junior outfielder Kadar Namey had the big hit in the inning with a two-run home run.
The Hawks added a pair runs in the third on a two-run double by sophomore outfielder Brendan Hueth to make the score 8-2.
In the fourth, freshman catcher Andrew Cossetti hit a two-run home run over the left field fence off Mason sophomore
James Price to increase the lead to 10-2.

Bailey Klein knocked a run with a single in the fifth and Driscoll plated a run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth to cut the Hawks advantage to 10-4.
In the seventh, Saint Joseph's sent 14 batters to the plate and scored seven runs on three hits and five walks against three Mason relievers to break the game open at 17-4.
The Patriots responded with five runs in the top of the eighth against three Hawks relievers.

Jared Lyons reached on an error and senior infielder
Alejandro Aponte singled to put runners on the corners to start the inning. Reckling drove in a run with an infield single to make it 17-5.
After Driscoll grounded into a fielder's choice, Klein and senior first baseman
Tim Quinn followed with back-to-back RBI-singles to make the score 17-7. With two outs, freshman outfielder
Jack Fitzgerald singled to left to drive in the last two runs of the day for the Patriots.
The Hawks tacked on a run in the home half of the eighth for the 18-9 final.
Saint Joseph's moved to 3-0 at home, while Mason dropped to 1-7 on the road.
Zegna (2-2) allowed eight runs, six earned, on nine hits with one walk in 2.2 innings and took the loss. Price gave up two runs on four hits with three strikeouts and one walk in 3.1 innings of work.

Zach Skrtich was touched for a run on one hit and three walks.
Every player in the Saint Joseph's starting lineup had at least one hit and either drove in a run or scored a run.
Kennedy (3-0) allowed four runs on nine hits with six strikeouts and three walks in 5.1 innings to earn the win.
Quinn reached base five times, going 4-for-4 with a walk, RBI and run score. He has hit safely in each of his last five games.
Driscoll went 2-for-4 with his team-leading seventh home run, three RBI and three runs scored, while Klein finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.
The Hawks have scored 29 runs on 30 hits over the first two games, while the Patriots have scored 14 runs on 21 hits in the series.
The Patriots will look to avoid the sweep in the final game of the series on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Smithson Field.
