HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The George Mason University women's tennis team moved to 2-0 on its spring break trip with a 6-1 victory over Slippery Rock on Wednesday in South Carolina.
Mason (8-3) won two of three doubles contests, then won five of six singles matches to wrap up the victory.
In doubles, freshmen
Jackie Nannery and
Hannah Harrod continued their strong start to the spring with a 6-3 win at No. 2. At No. 3, sophomore
Hannah Yang and junior
Rachel Lee took care of business during a 6-3 triumph.
In singles, Harrod also won her match at No. 3, taking down Lois Page 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. She is 5-2 in dual singles action this season.
At No. 4, freshman
Marium Raza also picked up a victory, winning the first set 7-5 and cruising in the second (6-2).
Christine McCarthy (6-3, 7-5) took a solid win at No. 5, while
Kayleigh Hahn made quick work of her opponent (6-1, 6-2) at No. 6.
At No. 1, senior
Sydney Green pulled out a marathon victory over Lacy Cohen. She won the first set, 6-1. Then after falling in a 7-6 set in the second, she won 16-14 in extra points in the third.
Mason wraps up the PTR Springfest on Thursday (March 14) with a matchup vs. IUPUI at noon.
