GENEVA, Ohio – The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the first day of competition at the Atlantic 10 Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Day one is shortest day of competition, with two relay events and the one-meter diving competition.
Mason junior
Gerald Hodges, Jr. won the Atlantic 10 title in one-meter diving event.
After posting a preliminary score of 267.20, Hodges recorded a finals score of 317.65 to take the top spot on the podium.
Mason freshman
Colin Graves placed seventh in the one-meter dive with a finals score of 247.40, while junior Joseph Amato earned the top spot in the consolation final to finish ninth in the event with a score of 257.55.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of senior
Michael Pettinichi, junior
Logan Eubanks, sophomore
Andres Alarcon and freshman
Jacob Miller set a new school record to finish second (1:27.85).
George Washington won the event, setting the Atlantic 10 and meet record with a time of 1:27.06.
The combination of junior
Ryan Donnelly, sophomores
Drake Moretz and
Dylan Peck, along with freshman
Nick Ashton tied for fourth with Saint Louis in the 800-yard freestyle relay (6:37.02).
George Washington won the event, setting the conference and meet record with a time of 6:28.60.
On the women's side, the combination of seniors
Theresa Cotter and
Brittany Murphy, junior
Rachel Chalsma and sophomore
Shannon Glesing finished sixth (1:42.71).
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the group of seniors
Marla Albanese and Cotter, along with freshmen
Megan Cummins and
Laura Hodge finished seventh (7:29.39).
The Atlantic 10 Championships continue on Thursday with the preliminary events scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and finals at 6:30 p.m. at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
