Mason Unveils 2020 Schedule

FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason softball program has unveiled their 2020 schedule. The season includes 50 regular season games (26 home - 24 road) and three home tournaments. The Patriots will face five 2019 NCAA Regional Tournament participants; Monmouth, Virginia Tech, Boston University, Sam Houston State and defending A-10 regular season champion Fordham.

Mason begins the 2020 season in DeLand, Fla to compete in the Stetson Hatter Rounder, hosted by Stetson University, from Feb. 7-9. The Patriots play five games in three days down south, starting against Sam Houston on Feb. 7. Mason plays the host team, Stetson, twice throughout the tournament.

The Patriots then head to Texas to participate in the Bearkat Classic, hosted by Sam Houston State, from Feb. 14-16. The women will play four games during their time in Huntsville, Texas; Houston Baptist on Feb. 14, Loyola-Chicago on Feb. 15, Sam Houston State on Feb. 15 and Providence on Feb. 16.

The George Mason Softball Complex will see its first action Feb. 28 as the Patriots host the Patriot Classic from Feb. 28 - March 1. There are three other schools competing along with the Patriots, Lafayette, Delaware and Radford.

The following week, Mason hosts the Mason Invitational where the Patriots will compete against Canisius on March 6 and Cornell on March 7, followed by two games on March 8, Buffalo and Hofstra.

The Green & Gold will then play host to 2019 NCAA Regional qualifier Virginia Tech on March 11 before hosting the Cherry Blossom Classic from March 13-15.

The Cherry Blossom Classic will feature two familiar foes in Maryland and Georgetown, along with 2019 MAAC champion Monmouth. Mason will begin the tournament against the Terrapins on March 13 along with a match against Monmouth on the same day. The Patriots will play the two programs again the following day and end the tournament March 15 versus Georgetown.

Atlantic 10 play begins March 21 when the Patriots hit the road and play La Salle in Philadelphia.

Mason's first conference home stand starts March 28, hosting Saint Joseph's in a double header, followed by another weekend series against Saint Louis.

The Patriots conclude their regular season on the road against St. Bonaventure on May 2-3, coupled with the Atlantic 10 Championship from May 6-9 in St. Louis, Mo., should the Patriots qualify.

Head coach Joe Verbanic returns in his 16th year as Mason's skipper.
