GENEVA, Ohio – The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up the final day of competition on Sunday at the A-10 Classic at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
The Mason men's team won all three of its duals at the A-10 Classic for the second straight year. The Patriots defeated La Salle (220-133), Saint Louis (278-71) and St. Bonaventure (267.5-85.5) to improve to 5-0 on the season.
The Mason women's team claimed a win in one of its four duals on the weekend. The Patriots earned their first victory of the season with a win over La Salle (191-149). The Mason women's team dropped its matchups against Duquesne (189-157), Saint Louis (191-150) and St. Bonaventure (185-161).
On the men's side, the Patriots won three of eight events on day two.
Senior
Attila Kiss won gold in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:09.36) for the second straight year, while freshman
Jackson Knouse made the podium with a third-place finish (16:57.81).
In the 200-yard backstroke, the Patriots went one-two with senior
Logan Eubanks first (1:50.32) and classmate
Ryan Donnelly second (1:50.96), with the two separated by less than a second. Sophomore
Sam Westmont was sixth (1:54.22) in the event.
Junior
Drake Moretz placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (46.41), with sophomore
Will Rastatter fifth (47.27) and freshman
Josh Fletcher sixth (47.59).
Freshman
Thomas Chapman took second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:07.65), while graduate student
Jake Ball and senior
Christopher Stankiewicz tied for fifth place (2:09.37).
In the 200-yard butterfly, Mason took three of the top four spots with freshman Luke Devore second (1:53.99), junior
Andres Alarcon third (1:54.80) and junior
Devin Truong fourth (1:55.04).
Senior
Gerald Hodges, Jr. placed second in both the one-meter (298.30) and three-meter (280.40) diving events.
Senior Joseph Amato was sixth in both the one-meter (240.10) and three-meter (199.80), while classmate
William Dubuque finished seventh in both the one-meter (194.30) and three-meter (144.35).
On the women's side, sophomore
Megan Cummins placed fourth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:49.67), while junior
Erica King finished 10th (18:52.75).
Freshman
Lauren Ashton made the podium with a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.28), with sophomore
Hannah Milikich fourth (2:07.30).
Junior
Jacquee Clabeaux won the 100-yard freestyle (51.99) and freshman
Emily Lewantowicz placed fourth (53.92).
In the 200-yard butterfly, sophomore
Laura Hodge touched the wall first (2:08.38), while freshman
Leah Riley was sixth (2:09.65) in the event.
The combination of junior
Shannon Glesing, sophomore
Ariana Lewis, Clabeaux and Riley took first place in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:32.87).
Mason is back in action Nov. 21-23, hosting the annual Patriot Invitational at the Jim McKay Natatorium in Fairfax, Va.
