GENEVA, Ohio – The George Mason women's and men's swimming and diving teams concluded a strong first day of competition at the A-10 Classic at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

The Mason men's team leads La Salle (145-77), Saint Louis (175-46) and St. Bonaventure (175-47). The Mason women's team leads La Salle (123-93) and trails Duquesne (120-90), Saint Louis (128-88) and St. Bonaventure (121-98).

On the women's side, the team of juniors
Jacquee Clabeaux and
Shannon Glesing along with sophomore
Ariana Lewis and freshman
Grace Newton began the first day of competition with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:37.65).

Clabeaux took the top spot on the podium in the 50-yard freestyle (23.77), with Glesing fifth (24.91). Clabeaux finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.76), while Glesing was seventh (1:07.88) and freshman
Grace Newton was eighth (1:08.94).

In the 500-yard freestyle, sophomore
Megan Cummins placed 10th (5:18.11) and senior
Hannah Ikenberry was 12th (5:20.88).

Sophomore
Laura Hodge finished fifth in the 200-yard IM (2:10.03), while freshman
Lauren Ashton took sixth (2:10.89) and sophomore
Hannah Milikich was eighth (2:12.31) in the event.

Milikich took second in the 100-yard backstroke (58.76).

Freshman
Leah Riley, Glesing, Lewis and Milikich combined to place third in the 400-yard medley relay (3:58.23). The team of Clabeaux, Glesing, Lewis and Riley placed second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:48.09).

Riley just missed a spot on the podium with a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (58.52). Freshman
Emily Lewantowicz placed 12th (1:02.21) in the event.

Sophomore
Laura Hodge placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.60).

In the 400-yard IM, freshman
Lauren Ashton swam to a seventh-place finish (4:35.79), while classmate
Ashton Gasper was 12th (4:43.91).

On the men's side, the combination of seniors
Ryan Donnelly and
Christopher Stankiewicz along with sophomores
Nick Ashton and
Will Rastatter won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:23.43).

Stankiewicz won the 100-yard breaststroke (56.95). He also placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (21.07), with Rastatter fourth (21.36) and Ashton fifth (21.51).

The Patriots took three of the top four spots in the 200-yard IM, with Donnelly taking the win (1:54.15), junior
Drake Moretz third (1:55.07) and junior
Dylan Peck fourth (1:55.10).

Senior
Attila Kiss took the top spot on the podium for the third straight year in the 500-yard freestyle (4:35.62), while classmate
Logan Eubanks was fifth (4:48.02).

The Patriots placed one-three in the 100-yard backstroke, with Eubanks taking the top spot (49.92) and Donnelly finishing third (50.95).

Kiss won his second event of the day with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.52). Moretz also made the podium with a third-place finish (1:42.08) in the event.

The team of junior
Andres Alarcon, Eubanks, Stankiewicz and Moretz touched the wall first in the 400-yard medley relay (3:24.03). In the 200-yard medley relay, junior
Devin Truong, Eubanks, Stankiewicz and Moretz notched the victory (1:31.79).

Truong won the 100-yard butterfly (50.43), while Alarcon placed fourth (51.64).

In the 400-yard IM, freshman Luke Devore made the podium with a third-place finish (4:08.77), with classmate
Sammy Lucht sixth (4:10.70).

The A-10 Classic resumes on Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
