FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University rowing team begins the 2019-20 campaign on its home water when the Patriots race in the Occoquan Challenge Sunday at Sandy Run Regional Park.
Mason will race two Women's Champ and Club Eight boats at 1:05 p.m. as well as two Champ and Club Four crews at 3:10 p.m.
In addition, the Green & Gold will race four Women's Pair boats at 4:10 p.m., while
Emma Puckett will lead the day off for the Patriots in the Women's Single in 10:45 a.m.
Mason returns the bulk of its roster from 2019-20 and will look to test lineups, strengthen performance and sharpen skill during the fall racing season.
The Patriots bring back seven of eight members of its 2018-19 Varsity 8+ as well as Varsity 8+ coxswain
Kate Lackatos. Senior
Maria Justiniano – a 2019 All-A-10 selection and 2019-20 team captain – will provide leadership for the Patriots this season alongside fellow senior and team captain
Elizabeth Johnson.
In addition, six of Mason's eight Second Varsity 8+ crew members from last season also will be back in action for the Patriots in 2019-20. Three members of the Varsity 4+ also will be back for the Green & Gold.
After Sunday, Mason will race three more times during the fall slate. Next up will be the Navy Day Regatta on Oct. 12 in Philadelphia.
