FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University women's tennis team heads east to historic Annapolis for the Navy Blue & Gold tournament this weekend.
The Patriots will compete at the Brigade Sports Complex at the Naval Academy Oct. 4-6 against student-athletes from the host Middies, as well as Georgetown, Mary Washington, Maryland, Seton Hall, and UNC Wilmington. The event will feature four singles draws and a pair of doubles flights.
Mason freshmen have gotten off to a great start through the team's two dual matches and two tournaments this season.
Paige La is a perfect 9-0 in singles play and also has posted an 8-1 mark in doubles paired with junior
Hannah Yang. La and Yang were crowned champions at the Loyola Tennis Invitational last weekend in a unique Points of the Compass draw format where duos compete against other duos from other schools in a best-of-three format, consisting of two singles matches and a doubles contest. The pair defeated the defending champions from Loyola, Kateri Martin and Abigail Thornton.
Freshman
Ashley Fitz-Patrick remains unbeaten in singles with a 9-0 mark and a 4-3 record in doubles.
Isabella Daverio is 4-0 in singles.
In addition to the newcomers, sophomore
Marium Raza is 6-1 in singles.
After this weekend's event, Mason wraps up its fall tournament schedule with the annual ITA Regional Oct. 25-29 in Blacksburg, Va.
