RICHMOND, Va. –
The George Mason men's tennis team doubles tandem of sophomore Michael Pollatos and freshman Momin Khan won their doubles flight to pace the Patriots this weekend at the River City Tennis Open.

Their effort helped propel the Patriots to a solid three days on the courts in which the Green & Gold tested their mettle against some of the region's top competition.

Back from his trip to the ITA All-American Championship in Tulsa, Okla., senior Edward Ayers suited up in the highly competitive 'B' singles flight and picked up a victory over James Madison's Holden Koons (6-4, 6-2). He also played a strong match against College of Charleston's Noah Borges but ultimately fell in a super tiebreaker in that match (1-6, 6-2, 3-10).

Fellow senior Jakob Nielsen represented Mason in the 'D' singles flight and picked up a pair of victories. He took down Guillermo Cagigas of Longwood in three sets (7-5, 4-6, 10-7), then wrapped up his weekend with a good win over JMU's Tate Steinour (7-5, 3-6, 10-7).

In the 'E' flight, freshman Rithik Sardana put together a stout weekend for the Green & Gold with two wins, including a straight sets triumph over Robby Krick of College of Charleston (6-3, 6-2). In his final match, he defeated Longwood's Ignacio Sandoval in three (2-6, 6-4, 10-8).

Sophomore Erick Rivas reached the consolation final in the 'F' bracket, opening with a pair of victories. He upended two Appalachian State Mountaineers, including Campbell Stone (3-6, 6-4, 6-2) and Blake Carter (6-0, 6-2).

Elsewhere in 'F,' sophomore Chanasorn Nakaurai placed fourth in the flight, opening with wins over Randolph-Macon's Grant Sarver (6-3, 6-2) and College of Charleston's Ben Husum (6-4, 6-2). Also in 'F', Khan grabbed victories over Campbell's Gustavs Lukstins (6-4, 6-4) and Liberty's William Barker (6-3, 7-5).

In the 'G' flight, senior Luke Maxwell finished third, picking up wins over Charlotte's Peter Glenn (6-1, 6-3), Ferner of R-M (7-5, 6-0) and Bucknell's Guillermo Torres (6-7, 6-1, 10-6).

Also in 'G,' freshman Faisal Alrebdi defeated James Madison's Josh Raymundo (6-3, 6-4) and Pollatos defeated R-M's Jake Ferner in three (6-3, 4-6, 10-3).

In doubles, Nielsen and Alrebdi teamed up to triumph over Virginia's Ronauldez/Dockter tandem (6-4). Junior Ryan Charles joined Sardana to also beat that UVa duo, 6-3.

In 'F,' Nakaurai and Maxwell reached the final of their flight, with wins over a Longwood team (6-1) and Bucknell duo (6-2). They fell to another Bucknell duo in the final, 4-6.

Rivas and Ayers took two matches in that flight, including a victory over Longwood's Sandoval/Naydenov tandem (6-2) and App State's Srivastava/Carter duo (6-3).

Khan and Pollatos won the 'G' flight after taking two wins over Randolph-Macon duos Alex Hein & Jack Aprahamian (6-4), and Grant Sarver/Jake Ferner (6-2).

Mason is right back at it beginning Thursday (Oct. 17), when the Green & Gold take part in the annual ITA Regional in Charlottesville, Va. Competition runs through Monday (Oct. 21).
