FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason wrestling team is back in action on Thursday, Jan. 10, facing Eastern Wrestling League rival Cleveland State at 5:30 p.m. and then Columbia at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Athletic Complex in Fairfax.
Mason (4-2, 1-1 EWL) has won its last two duals to improve to 4-1 on the road this season.
Last time out, the Patriots took to the mat in two different cities in the same day for the second straight year.
Mason wrestled two matches on Dec. 20, recording a 30-13 victory over Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, N.C., before posting a 34-6 win against Davidson in Davidson, N.C.
The Patriots have also defeated VMI, 20-17 (Nov. 2) and Bloomsburg, 24-11 (Nov.29) this season.
Mason redshirt senior
Matthew Voss (20-4, 5-1) was named EWL Wrestler of the Week for the second time this season after placing fourth at heavyweight at the Southern Scuffle held Jan. 1-2 in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Voss has placed in all four tournaments that he has competed in this season. He placed first at the Hokie Open (Nov. 4), first at the Bearcat Open (Nov. 11), second at the Patriot Open (Dec. 9) and fourth at the Southern Scuffle (Jan. 1-2).
The senior captain is ranked #9 by TheOpenMat, #13 by FloWrestling, #16 by Intermat and #21 by TrackWrestling.
Redshirt senior
Tejon Anthony (20-6, 5-1) is tied for the team lead in victories. He has won five of his six dual matches at 149 pounds this season, earning bonus points in five of those bouts (three major decisions, two falls).
Redshirt junior
Colston DiBlasi (19-8, 3-1) is second on the team in wins and has won his last three dual matches at 165 pounds, including a pin at Davidson on Dec. 20.
At 157 pounds, freshman
Kolby Ho (15-7, 5-0) boasts a 5-0 dual record and has earned bonus points in four of the five matches (two technical falls, two major decisions).
Last season, Cleveland State won six of 10 bouts and defeated Mason, 29-18, on Jan. 27 at Woodling Gymnasium in Cleveland, Ohio.
Eli Spencer won by fall at 197 pounds, while Anthony registered a major decision at 149 pounds and Voss notched a major decision at heavyweight in last year's matchup against the Vikings.
In the opening match of the day on Thursday, Cleveland State will face Columbia at 4 p.m. at the Recreation Athletic Complex. It's the first meeting between the two programs.

SCOUTING CLEVELAND STATE
Cleveland State has a 3-2 dual record, including a mark of 1-2 on the road. The Vikings have taken part in five duals and five open tournaments this season.
Last time out, the Vikings competed in the Lock Haven Classic on Dec. 29 in Lock Haven, Pa.
Sophomore Nico O'Dor (19-9, 3-2) went 3-0 to place first at 157 pounds, while freshman Ben Smith (11-9, 3-2) finished 3-0 to claim the title at 197 pounds.
Senior Armando Torres (22-7, 4-1) placed second at 133 pounds and freshman Dimitri Williams (4-10, 1-3) took second at 174 pounds.
Freshman Brady Barnett (13-5, 5-0) has not allowed a point over five dual matches while scoring 23 at 149 pounds.
Cleveland State has won its last two dual matches.
The Vikings defeated Otterbein, 47-6, at Woodling Gym on Dec. 9 in Cleveland. After a short trip, Cleveland State then posted a 33-5 win over John Carroll later the same day.

SCOUTING COLUMBIA
The Lions have won their first two duals of the season. Columbia defeated VMI 27-12 (Dec. 8) and Northern Colorado, 19-13 (Dec. 10).
Junior Laurence Kosoy (14-5, 2-0) leads the team in wins at 165 pounds, while senior Dan Reed (13-3, 2-0) is second on the squad in victories at 157 pounds.
Mason and Columbia both competed at the Southern Scuffle last week.

MAT FACT
Mason has defeated Cleveland State in each of the last two duals held in Fairfax. The Patriots recorded a 19-12 win on Jan. 10, 2015 and picked up a 27-8 victory on Jan. 15, 2017.
Mason is facing Columbia for the first time since Nov. 27, 2011. This will be just the third meeting between the two schools.
