CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The George Mason wrestling team wrapped up the first day of competition at the 2019 Southern Scuffle, hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga at McKenzie Arena.

Eli Spencer advanced to day two.
Voss won all three of his matches at 285 pounds on day one to advance to the semifinals, where he will face Anthony Cassar (Penn State).
Voss defeated Thomas Ott (Navy) by 7-2 decision in the round of 32 and earned a 6-0 decision against Connor Tolley (Chattanooga) in the round of 16.
In the quarterfinals, Voss won by decision on six seconds of advantage time in double overtime to advance to the semifinals.
At 149 pounds, Anthony earned a 7-3 decision over Thomas Stager (Air Force) in his first bout of the day.
Anthony then built an 8-1 lead after the first period on the way to a 15-7 major decision over Troy Nation (Campbell) in the round of 32. He notched four takedowns and four near-fall points in the match.
In the round of 16, Anthony trailed Jared Prince (Navy) 5-0 after two periods, but rallied to make the score 5-3 in the third before dropping an 8-3 decision.
In the consolation round, Anthony then registered a 10-6 decision over Doug Gudenburr (The Citadel) and scored a takedown in overtime for a dramatic 3-1 decision against Alec Hagen (Ohio) to advance to day two.
After dropping a 5-2 decision to Tanner Skidgel (Navy) in his first match of the day at 165 pounds, DiBlasi battled back and won three bouts in the consolation bracket to advance to day two.
DiBlasi won by 11-6 decision over Trey Watson (Chattanooga), won by fall against Mason Eaglin (Duke) and defeated Riley Smucker (Appalachian State) by 6-3 decision.
Spencer opened with a 10-0 major decision over Sam Wustefeld (Columbia) in the round of 32. After falling in the round of 16, Spencer picked up a 3-1 decision over Anthony Deprez (Binghamton) and then won by fall over Kaden Sauer (Iowa State) to advance to the second day of competition.
Top-ranked and defending NCAA Champion Penn State holds the team lead (121.5 points), followed by No. 3 Oklahoma State (111.5), Iowa State (60) and Lock Haven (60).
Day two of the Southern Scuffle is set for Wednesday, Jan. 2 beginning at 10 a.m., with semifinals scheduled for 12 p.m. and finals slated for 7 p.m. at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga, Tenn.
