Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— The Atlantic 10 Conference announced Thursday that 3,168 student-athletes, 50.3 percent of all A-10 student-athletes, earned 2017-18 Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction, which recognizes excellence in the classroom.

Each school placed an average of 226 student-athletes on the honor roll. Fordham led all schools with 304 honorees, followed by Massachusetts (274), Saint Joseph's (256) and George Mason (251).

Six Patriots' teams finished in the top five among A-10 teams. Women's lacrosse and men's golf each finished second with 28 and eight student-athletes earning the honor respectively. Softball and women's volleyball both finished third, men's swimming and diving was fourth and men's track and field finished fifth in their respective sports.

This marks the first time the Commissioner's Honor Roll has been based on the entire academic year. Previously the award was granted following each semester. To be selected for the Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA, and freshmen are eligible to receive the award.

The 3,168 student-athletes is the highest number of unique honorees in a single year. In previous years, the Commissioner's Honor Roll number was calculated by combining the fall and spring semester totals.

The freshman class represented the largest number of honorees with 849, while 796 sophomores qualified. There were 745 seniors and 739 juniors recognized as well.

Women's track and field and cross country had the highest number of honor roll qualifiers of any sport with 429. Men's track and field and cross country had 315, the most of any male sport. Women's soccer had 294, rowing had 249 and baseball had 235.

A complete list of honorees is included with this release.
