FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason redshirt junior starting pitcher
Bryce Nightengale was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 16th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft on Wednesday.
Nightengale, a native of Cresaptown, Md., was selected with the 473rd overall pick.
The right-hander finished the season with a 6-6 record and 3.45 ERA in 15 starts for the Patriots, while setting career highs in wins (6), innings pitched (88.2) and strikeouts (80).
Nightengale is the ninth Mason player drafted in the 16th round or higher and the first in program history to be selected by Oakland.
Nightengale ranked seventh in the Atlantic 10 in strikeouts (80) and tied for sixth in the conference in innings pitched (88.2). He also tied for second in the A-10 in starts (15) and tied for 12th in the league in wins (6).
