FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason redshirt-junior
Matthew Voss has been named 2018 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) First-Team All-State at 285 pounds, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Voss, a native of Edgewood, Wash, finished the season with a 24-13 record. He earned bonus points in 11 matches and led the team with a career-high 24 wins. Voss also led the squad with six pins and was second on the team with five major decisions during the 2017-18 season.
A first-time NCAA qualifier, Voss advanced to day two of the 2018 NCAA Championships with a win over Northwestern's Conan Jennings. The match went to a tiebreaker, where Voss took the lead with an escape and recorded a takedown to seal the victory.
During the 2017-18 season, Voss placed third at the 2018 EWL Championships, finished sixth at the Navy Classic and posted four wins at the Franklin & Marshall Open.
