FAIRFAX, Va. - Four goals in the opening two minutes by the Davidson women's lacrosse team set the tone and prevented George Mason from ever gaining any traction in its Atlantic 10 home opener.
The Patriots suffered a 10-6 loss to Davidson on Friday at George Mason Stadium. The Wildcats scored within 20 seconds of the opening draw and didn't let up, grabbing a 4-0 lead less than two minutes in. Davidson scored the game's first five goals and the Patriots (8-3, 2-1 A-10) couldn't recover.
Mason cut the deficit to two goals twice, including with 11:52 remaining. But the Patriots failed to capitalize on several opportunities late and didn't score the rest of the way. They scored a season-low six goals on 26 shots as Davidson goalkeeper Rose Woolson made 14 saves. The Patriots also struggled to gain possession, winning just six draw controls compared to 12 by the Wildcats (7-4, 2-1).
