FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason Softball team (11-18, 2-4 A-10) begins a five-game road trip Wednesday afternoon against the Towson Tigers. This week's midweek contest is a doubleheader with first pitch for game one scheduled for 3 p.m.
The two teams split the midweek doubleheader last year in Fairfax with the Patriots taking game one. Mason was down 5-2 as late as the bottom of the sixth inning before a four-run inning propelled them to a 6-5 lead they held on to the rest of the way.
Jess Middleton and
Brooke Sullivan both had RBI singles in the big inning, while Sullivan's bases-loaded hit drove in two Patriots.
RS-freshman
Adriana Erickson led the Patriots with a .500/.556/.700 slash line in the series vs. Saint Louis (4-for-8, two doubles) and collected two hits in the series finale on March 31. Erickson has hit safely in her last seven games and has recorded two hits in a game five times this season, tying her for second on the team in multi-hit games.
Right behind Erickson was junior
Jess Curbeira who went 3-for-7 to increase her team leading batting average to .359 on the season. Curbeira has tallied 33 hits on the year and is three shy of tying her 2017 total of 36. So far this season, the Henrico, Va. native has notched three hits in a game three times this season and is leading the team with 11 multi-hit games.
Sophomore
Bekah Ansbro had a breakout start in game two of Friday's doubleheader vs. Saint Louis (March 30), setting a career high in strikeouts with eight and only allowed one hit – her fewest allowed in an outing of at least four innings. The performance was Ansbro's fifth complete game of the season, a total that leads the team.
Sophomore
Alyssa Lawton tied her single-season career high with her eighth stolen base in the win against the Billikens. Lawton started all three games vs. Saint Louis and picked up two hits in the night cap, marking her third multi-hit game of her career. The Dover, Pa. native knocked in her first collegiate RBI on March 31 vs. Saint Louis and has also gone two straight games with a putout.
